Introductory Music Promotions

Written by: Steven Fenn

I am writing my first blog post to introduce, the formatting and true nature of my little promo biz. As much as I’d love to be a paid event promoter, I recognize that at this current moment in my life, that is just not where I’m at. So to inspire the universal juices, I am taking a gander at utilizing this Blog as a platform to share local arts & entertainment events I’ve been a part of or have attended.

So to kick it off, I’d like to highlight a place I’ve just recently discovered that’s just right across the river from Trenton, in Morrisville, PA. Snipes Farm is this place I’m referring to.

Located off Rt. 1 headed southbound from Trenton, this little farm is nestled away on a, well, not-the-quietest, but private property. Snipes Farm is host to a whole slew of activities and happenings ranging from Educational programs for the littles to Wreathe-Making workshops, to full blown camping music festivals. Which is how I ended up here.

I must admit I am a little late in this write-up on Harvest Moon, as the festival was almost 3 months ago, but given this is the first edition of this month’s weekly promo, I have to rewind a bit…because this was a special one. I ended up at Snipes all thanks, with HUGE gratitude, to the bois in the OTC Collective. That stands for Over The Counter and boy does it hit.

I discovered these guys on the socials a few years back and started following to support the local circuit. I was stoked to finally catch a set at The Social earlier this year. Since then I’ve seen them at least 4 or 5 times including sharing the stage with them at Only Jam’s Spring Awakening.

So fast forwarding to Harvest Moon…anticipations were high. I had the pleasure of joining their camp upon arriving at the festival and finding Alex posted up at main stage. He showed me where camp was and I began to bring in my gear and commune with camp-mates. Night 1’s headliner was Muskrat Flats. I’d never heard of them prior and had no idea what to expect going into the set. They had seemed to draw in a decent crowd and at the top of the set as I arrived to the pit area of mainstage, I knew then why I wore my boogie shoes. And damn did I boogie. Nodes of so many familiar flavors but the one that stood out biasedly to me was that of the Disco Biscuits. But with way more of a bluegrass-esque foundation. Still jamtronica but more jam then tron. These guys were absolutely fantastic. The burned for over an hour and half bringing night 1 to a close.

Unfortunately I ended up heading back to my home base across the Delaware for the night and missed a banger of a dance party in the pavilion late friday night. At least that’s what I was told upon re-entry on Saturday. Ah well, we win some and we loose some. And I had a nice evening/morning with my lady friend so no drinks were spilled.

The daytime was filled with a number of solo or duo artists that were all very splendid. I think I would have personally enjoyed 1 or 2 more bands as I felt the air was a bit calm.. but after a long, hot summer it was probably much needed. Which brings me to the headliners.

Excitement was building as we sat around camp pre-set Saturday afternoon. OTC had played the previous Harvest Moon as an opener but now in 2024, they took to the stage around 7:45pm. Shenanigans were high, smiles were spreading contagiously, and that true nature of Summer’s freedom was running wild. As the time ticked ever so close to the 7 o’clock hour, the camp had dwindled to just friends and lovers. I prepped my favors of choice for the evening and proceeded to the main stage.

Starting with a nice cool summer breeze kinda jam to kick it off, these bois lit Snipes Farm up on fire, winding through peaks and valleys of various flavor assortments. I only wish I logged the setlist, but my socks had long been taken off and there was no chance I was running back to camp for a notebook. I did manage to capture of nice lil’ snippet of Dscry’s ‘Boxed Up’.

Following up OTC was Harvest Moon’s Big Headliner, hailing from Philly/Puerto Rico, was Latin Roots Fusion act De Tierra Caliente. Also another band I’d never heard of going into the festival and a fan coming out. I’m a sucker for latin music and throwing them into the festival mix turned out to be quite the concoction. (Hopefully more on them later…) Last up on this nice 2 day music festival and to close it out was local favorite Timi Hendrixx.

Timi was joined on the stage with a couple of the guys from OTC (Tobi, Steve, Alex & Jay.) The song choice was excellent and the jams even sweeter. The music carried far off into the night being swept up by a slew of campfire jams around a bolstering fire. Although I must admit that upon my Lady and I’s arrival at the scene, it had seemed to be wrapping up. Daylight was not too far away. The entertained had begun to wane. Small company turned into Healing Waters. And we found ourselves in the midst of Soul Family.

Well I suppose this “introductory” post turned more into a recap of Harvest Moon but that’s okay. I’ll save some other ideas I had for the next post. Some of the which are things like upcoming show/events in the local Trenton area, album/single reviews, as well as recaps like this one and other shout outs for local establishments/spaces myself or my partner in blessing, Ariel, seems to find groovy enough to share on Trentonius.org. For now peace & love. Much gratitude for reading and I hope our words find you well. Until the next.
